REWRITING HISTORY CLASSES

I wonder what would happen
if at schools
they would teach history
that does not glorifies
wars,
where heroes
would be those men and women
that have contributed the most
to human development
instead of those
who killed
-or helped to kill-
thousands of
human beings.

It is really sick
to realize that people
will know more about all wars
fought on their countries,
authoritarian generals,
horrible massacres
or bloody battles
than scientists,
writers,
doctors,
painters,
or philosophers
that ever lived
or worked
among them.

I wonder what would happen
if children would not only
study science and arts
but also
the evolution of
each discipline
instead
of the evolution
of armies.

This is just another face
of the hypocrisy
we live in:
we try to suppress
and publicly reject
violence
while we teach it at schools.

And we deeply reap
what we sow.
