MODERN TIMES

There was a time
when slaves
were forced to work
with the use of
whips
and chains.

Of course,
chains and whips
were too harsh
to be ignored
so revolts
protests and
insubordination
were always associated
with slavery.

Furthermore,
some clever people
developed
clever technology
requiring qualified people
to work with it.
Slaves did not fit the bill
anymore.

So one day
slaves found
themselves
without a chain locking
their ankles
nor the crack of the whip
on their ears.
Everyone was suddenly
free
to do whatever
they wanted.

All we needed then
(and now),
was some money
to fulfill
our needs.

And this is how
slavery
lost its color,
stopped paying attention
to races or
birthplaces and
focused on
wallets,
bank accounts
and properties,
giving birth to
modern times.

Now there are
more slaves than
ever.
They just don't
even
know.
